Hi everyone,
Given the number of questions following the recent removal of Plexamp, I wanted to provide a quick follow-up to clarify things.
Why Plexamp was removed:
Plexamp Headless (the version used on RoPieee) was abandoned.
It carried an ongoing maintenance burden due to its JavaScript base and restrictive dependencies.
What about Caldera Headless?
A new alternative, Caldera Headless, has since emerged. It shares a similar goal, isn’t a JavaScript application (yay!), and looks promising.
Why it hasn’t been integrated yet:
Integrating a new service isn’t entirely straightforward. Moving forward, any new service must support integration with Verox’s Convenience Switching—otherwise, it’s a no-go. Thanks to a helpful intermediary connecting with the Caldera team, there is now a clear plan for what needs to happen on their end to enable this feature.
Current Development Status:
The foundational work for Caldera is already finished: account linking, service configuration, and audio playback are all functional. The future looks bright, but we are currently waiting on the Caldera team to implement the required changes so I can complete the integration.
Hopefully this helps clarify our position on Plex.
Thanks!
